PSDLViewer_2005-08-09.zip

Another un-checked release. Several things have been changed, but none of them are extensively tested.

The changes are:
- PSDL
  - Automatically recognizes MC format (PSD1) and skips unknown data. The amount of data to skip is currently hard coded and needs a re-compilation between loading London and Manhattan. Currently set for loading MC London, trying to load MC Manhattan will probably crash PSDL Viewer.
  - The unknown parameter of sliver attributes (0x1c) has been identified to point out a value in the heights table indicating the scale of the texture map.
  - Added editor for attribute 0x48, however, this editor may not work properly.
- Renderer
  - Now also renders the 0x28 road triangle fan attribute.
  - Now renders orientation coordinate system markers on BAI curves.
  - Attempts to compute texture coordinates from texture scale of sliver attributes (0x1c). Not entirely accurate yet.
- New tools
  - Generate CPVS - generates a CPVS by computing the distance between all blocks, if the distance is greater than a given value, the block will get culled.
  - Auto Facade Bound - adds facade bound attributes to all facades.
  - Flush textures - flushes the texture cache, next texture update will force the textures to be read from disk.
- Fixed bugs
  - Texture files are no longer locked until PSDL Viewer is shut down.
  - Now only renders block bounds if the show block bound option is set.
  - Now trims and checks for empty strings correctly in font names.
  - INST list will be updated when blocks are re-ordered.
  - No longer crashes if the options file doesn't contain the FONT3D element.
- Various fixes
  - Now compiled with SUN jdk 1.5, not certain if any 1.5 features are used, though. You may still be able to run it with older jre's.
  - Added option to choose font for block id labels in the 3d view.
PSDLViewer_2004-11-11.zip

Another un-checked release. Several things have been changed, but none of them are extensively tested.

The changes are:
- PSDL
  - Removed bug, previsously Attribute 0x60 required a specific number of vertices, and this number wasn't even specified. Now any number of vertices is allowed.
  - Added dialog box in OpenPSDL giving the user the choice to ignore data after the blocks when reading a PSDL file. This enables opening Manhattan of Midnight Club.
  - Now acknowledges the bounding sphere found in the dimension section of the PSDL.
- Pathset
  - Tried to correct orientation of Pathset objects - still isn't right. This implies that the two point theory is incorrect.
  - Fixed bug, now the number of props is correct for LINE_STRIP paths.
    
    TODO: I have a theory that might make the number of props correct for LINES paths as well, for example the banners in SF/Chinatown. But this is not implemented.
- BAI
  - Added primitive, read only, BAI support.
- PKG
  - Copied PKG classes from PKGViewer - now PSDL Viewer can render all PKGs I have tested, including the ones from Midnight Club.
- Renderer
  - The selected blocks are outlined, according to their perimeters by a blue-white line.
  - Can now render the bounding sphere of the PSDL.
  - Renders the curves of the loaded BAI file routes as colour coded lines.
- GUI
  - Remove in the block list no longer removes perimeter vertices referencing to the removed block - the neighbour is set to 0xffff (-) instead.
  - Corrected the name of the INST window - it used to be "Blocks", now it is "INST".
  - Added possibility to configure the font for labeling blocks in the 3d view. Currently this has to be done by manually adding a new element in the options file. Right after the "<PSDLViewer>" tag, add

    Where FAMILY is the font name and SIZE is the font height in metres.
  - Added read-only list boxes for fLanes and bLanes in the Road window.
  - Changed layout and added some options in the terrain view option tab.
  - The tool "Auto dimensions" now also calculates and sets the bounding sphere of the PSDL.
  - Added function "OpenBAI".
PSDLViewer_2004-07-21.zip

The last attribute id in a block attribute list has bit 7 set. There was a misconception that there were two separate block attributes with the exact same function, one was only to be used as the last attribute. In fact these were always the same attributes, just with bit seven set. In this release all block attributes are renumbered and a checkbox for indicating the last attribute has been added.

Other changes:
- New tools
  - Auto block sort - Sorts plain, roads and intersection blocks
  - Auto block type - tries to determine the type of all blocks based on their block attributes
  - Auto last attribute - Sets or clears bit seven in block attribute ids. Only the last attribute in each block will have bit seven set after this tool is activated
- GUI
  - The unknown integer parameter in the block list was renamed proprule. This parameter indicates what proprule to use for roadside props, if such are used on this block
  - Attribute001c: The bottom parameter is not a bottom height, it has been changed to unknown but it is probably controlling texture scale
  - Attribute001c: Renamed from Facade (No repeat) to Sliver
  - Attribute003c: Renamed parameter - the bottom height is not a bottom height, now it is called shade because indications suggest that this controls HSV of the facade
  - Attribute005e: Renamed parameters h0 and h1 to bottom and top respectively
- Rendering
  - Pathset rendering now includes decals
  - Added better handling of Midnight Club texture type 15, (P4) and added handling of type 16, (PA4)
- PSDL-ML
  - Now also reads attribute 0x1c. "Sliver"
  - Removed bottomheight from slivers (0x1c)
  - Now merges heights
  - No longer reads attributes with "last attribute" bit set
  - Heights are read from xml-attributes rather than elements
  - Now reads roof attributes 0x62-0x67 as well as 0x60
- Bugfixes
  - Block list add and remove now automatically corrects block references in perimeters. Block references in Roads and INST views are still not corrected
  - Fixed minor errors in the list of known block attributes
  - When a block was selected only textures defined by attribute 0x50 were selected in the texture list. Now textures defined with attribute 0x51 are also selected

Several small changes has been made, most noticable are the rendering of road dividers in divided roads and rendering of pathset files. The pathset rendering is still highly experimental and not at all complete.
- Changes to the renderer:
  - Now renders attribute 0x0a, the special cases identified by Yallis has been taken care of.
  - Now renders attribute 0xaa, this is a road triangle strip with four vertices.
  - Now renders attribute family 0xe0-0xe7, these are roof triangle fans.
  - Now renders dividers for divided roads.
- New and changed attributes:
  - Added attribute family 0xe0-0xe7, roof triangle fan
  - Attribute 0xaa was thought to be a sidewalk strip, it isn't. Now it is interpreted as a road triangle strip.
  - Attribute family 0xc0-0xc7 was incorrectly interpreted, now the divider type, flags and value parameter are handled better.
  - Bugfix: Attribute family 0xc0-0xc7, it used to read the flags and texture reference in the wrong order - corrected that.
  - Bugfix: Attribute family 0xc0-0xc7, now compensates for n + 1 in the texture index for reading and writing.
  - Bugfix: Attribute family 0xc0-0xc7, prevented integer truncation in the presentation of the value parameter.
  - Confirmed the name of attribute 0x4b, this is a tunnel/railing attribute.
  - Confirmed the name of attribute 0x3c, this is a facade bound attribute.
- PSDLML import filter improvements:
  - Now parses divider settings for attribute family 0xc0-0xc7.
- PKG import filter improvements:
  - Searching for H, M, L an VL suffixes is now case-insensitive.
  - Sets the ambient, diffuse, specular and emissive colours of the PKG and reads shaders of type 0 correctly.
- Pathset import filter:
  - Created a basic pathset loader, it displays any number of pathsets, but does not handle decals yet. Also, there seems to be a 90 degree orientation problem in some occasions.

Misterlvlariusz requested the possibility to add blocks and perimeter vertices before and after the selected. A quick'n dirty hack for that is implememnted in this release. Several other changes are also included:
- PSDLML import filter improvements:
  - Now reads tunnel attributes (0x4b).
  - Now reads attribute family 0x90, road strips without sidewalks.
  - Now reads attributes 0xb1 and 0xb2, they were previously missed in the 0xb0 family.
  - Now reads building attributes 0x3c, 0x5e and the family 0x60.
  - Now "welds" textures - i.e. the import filter looks for a matching texture sequence for each attribute 0x50 before inserting a new sequence. Can't handle texture indices defined at block attribute level, only texture names.
  - Implemented support for attribute 0x51, allowing texture indices larger than 255. But something is wrong - when these are used the PSDL tends to become unstable in MM2.
- Fixed a bug in attribute 0x4b, it didn't report the correct byte length, this caused incorrect PSDLs.
- Added parsing of attribute 0x28, road triangle fan.
- Added rendering of attribute 0x97, rectangle strip.
- Added possibility to add new blocks before and after the selected block. A quick'n dirty loop bumps all block references above the inserted block in the perimeters of all exisiting blocks. The "Roads" section is not affected yet, I should rebuild this anyway.

Bugfix release, Misterlvlariusz reported that the attribute view for block attribute 0x0060 was not correct. This is a bug fix for that. Even so, this release have some other changes as well. Thanks.
- Now opens the PSDL file specified on the command line if any.
- Fixed a bug in the Road section 3D display, it counted the number of sections incorrectly.
- PSDL-ML import function now accepts any attribute in the 0x00b0-family.
- PSDL-ML import function now handles specific road attributes (0x0080-0x0087)

Bugfix release, due to the fact that I was sick while fixing these bugs, I have to rely of you, the users to verify that my fixes are correct. My mental capacity was significantly reduced so I wasn't able to think through them all carefully. I hope that you have patience with me on this one. Thanks.
- Bugs pointed out by Driver: (Thanks)
  - Changes to texture attributes caused exceptions. Fixed
  - Changes to INST simple component scale and angle wasn't stored. Fixed - I think, please verify the validity of my calculations by testing this. I think that Rippance actually managed to jump start my brain, it just took a while to get this sorted out. The simplest case of trigonometry and I repeatedly failed. At least I can blame my viral infection this time.
- Bugs found in the process: (Thanks to Driver again, if you hadn't pointed out the other ones it might have taken me some time to realize these obvious bugs)
  - Changes to most attributes with parameters in addiditon to vertices caused exceptions. Fixed
  - Editing the divided road attributes didn't work - changes were never stored. Fixed
- Other changes:
  - Altered the bailout behaviour when a paint job of a PKG isn't found - now it just displays an error message and selects the first paint job. Unfortunately this means that the block id can no longer be shown in the error message. But several previously black holes are now covered with nice facades. Might not be 100% accurate to the game though. It remains to figure out why these mismatches exist and waht MM2 does to solve the problem. Is it just me, or did that change the number of paint job errors reported when loading london or sf.inst?!? I might have made another doodoo. No strength to check it now though.

- New and changed attributes:
  - Attribute 0x008b is interpreted as a sidewalk strip as indicated by BoosterNFS.
  - Added tunnel attribute (0x004b) as indicated by Driver.
  - Added flags and texture reference according to Driver's discoveries in the divided road attributes (0x00c0).
- Changes to the renderer:
  - Skips rendering of the sidewalk if the sidewalk outer vertex is the same as the outer road vertex. Previously the vertical edge of the sidewalk was incorrectly rendered.
  - Improved rendering of the ground floor facades - scales the texture proportionally and uses the height of the vertices for the bottom edge.
  - Added face culling, now only the front faces are rendered.
  - Some attributes can no longer be rendered without textures.
- Changes to INST handling:
  - Reverted to the original idea of deltaX and deltaZ instead of scale and angle values for the simple INST component.
  - Displays an error message if the PKG isn't found, instead of a "null pointer exception".
- User interface changes:
  - All lists are scrollable.
  - Block attribute editors are now scrollable.

- Added attributes 97, c7, c6, c5, c4, c3, c2, c0, 96, 48, 47, 46, 45, 44, 43, 42, 40, 7 and 6 after input from Stereo and Driver.
- Improved texture support:
  - If the image isn't found it tries to load the first frame of an animation ("-0001").
  - Added a bogus TGA image loader, it doesn't actually load a TGA image, instead it uses a default icon indicating an "unknown texture format".
  - If the texture image file isn't found a default icon is used indicating "file not found".
  - Texture list no longer remove the file name if the texture can't be loaded/displayed.
  - The texture view is immediately updated when a texture name is entered/altered.
  - Copied code from my frozen project "TEX Viewer", now it reads more TEX variants a lot better.
- Started to create the RandomCityWizard, not at all completed. Current output includes trace rendering of lake polygons. The lakes are not created.
- Added the long awaited search function. Right click the block list and enter a block attribute id and/or texture index and click find to locate the first block that uses this attribute or texture. The format in the input fields is one hexadecimal integer without any leading 0x.
- Improved INST support:
  - Added option to enable/disable INST rendering in the option dialog window.
  - INST rendering now selects the highest LOD of the PKG.
  - Opening an INST does only render the INST, not the PSDL. Increased memory efficiency and loading speed.
  - Added function to duplicate components in the INST component list.
- Added rendering of attributes 2-7, 96, 97, 40-47 and c0-c7. The divided roads are rendered without the divisor for now.
- Added function for adjusting the heights in the height list.

- BUG Fix: When a new PSDL is created the dimension part of the PSDL is now initialized to a cube with a two kilometer side. Previously it wasn't initialized and this caused "null pointer exceptions".

- Now reads texture type 14 (0x0e) the same way as type 1. Maybe this is why the textures on some PKGs look strange?!?
- Texture coordinates were swapped for crosswalk rendering.
- Added safe-save, first saves PSDL with a trailing '#' in the file name. If everything goes well the '#' is removed afterwards.
- Added INST viewing and editing support.
- Added a geometry path that works just like the texture path for locating PKG files when rendering INST components.
- Java3D requires textures have widths and heights that are powers of 2, MM2 does not. Textures are now scaled to meet the requirement of Java3D.
- Now reads a partial psdl-ml file and welds vertices and heights.
- Reads and writes dimensions and road list instead of unknown.
- Added method autoDimensions() that calculates the extent of the PSDL.
- Reads, displays and allows editing of block types, as found after the block list in the PSDL file.
- Attribute 0x051 has been restored to the first idea - it is a texture attribute. This texture attribute shopuld be used for textures with an index larger than 255.
- Added an auto neighbour function that identifies the neighbours of all blocks. Currently there is a bug - if a block is removed, this function does not detect that. Any neighbour references to the removed block are not removed.
- Some lists now allow the user to insert items anywhere in the list.
- Added support for multiple texture paths.
- Now renders sidewalks and road sections.

- Added texture rendering of facades and triangle fans. The triangle fan method is very primitive and does not take the resolution of the texture into account - it really should. The facade renderer works fine for most facade attributes, but scaling of the texture is wrong on some. Also, not all facade block attributes have been completely identified yet. Naturally, these are not rendered.
- Corrected color palettes on palette based textures - reads BGR instead of RGB.
- Made the vertex references editable.
- Added the simplest form of help function - a list of the numbers and names of all known block attributes.
- Added method to translate selected vertices.
- Terrain display now reports errors in a dialog box.
- Added menu item "New". This also cured a bug when sometimes the list views were not correctly initialized, making added items dissapear even if one saves the PSDL. Now everything should be initialized correctly at startup.
- Added possibility to append a PSDL to the currently loaded PSDL. Unfortunately there seems to be some bugs in this, I have not yet managed to combine any two PSDLs. One problem that I am aware of is that as long as there are some uncharted block attributes they will most certainly be incorrect after appending.
- Fixed bug with block attribute 0x0080. The number of cross sections were writen as 0 when creating a new attribute of this type. This is now corrected.
- Added some and clarified the names of several block attributes.
